Answer: Social maturity in dogs is between 1-3 years of age. This is the time period when we see dogs who were previously slightly reactive or just fearful become dogs who are aggressive, so it makes sense that you are seeing this now.
Aggression between dogs needs a diagnosis to really be treated properly in the long-term. Dogs can guard their stuff, their owners, be fearful of other dogs, be attempting to establish rank within the group, be acting territorial or could simply be poor communicators.
In addition, there are certain medical disorders such as Hyperadrenocorticism, Hypoadrenocorticism, and Hypothyroidism, and medications such as prednisone that can change behavior. With the right diagnosis, you can proceed with treating your dog and changing her behavior permanently.
