Dog Pajamas
As the weather takes a turn for the worst here in Wisconsin I am reminded that extra warmth and protection is needed to keep Piper warm! One of my favorite ways of doing this is dog pajamas. Just as you and I enjoy a nice, new, warm pair of pajamas, your dog can now as well! We have a variety of pajamas to fit small dogs- from flannel, fleece, cotton, and more. Not everyone lives in the cold state of Wisconsin, so a cotton pair of dog pajamas may be more suitable than a thick fleece pair. Either way, keeping your dog warm at night, just got easier and more fashionable!

Don?t use human ointments/gels on cats
Question: I have a problem with my 4-year-old cat. He has sores all along his back. Is there anything I can do for him? I have no idea what it is, and am super worried about my little guy.
As of right now we don?t have the money to take him to the vet. I feel bad for him because we just can?t afford to take him, or we would in a second. He is still active and such a good cat. I would hate it if anything happened to him. My dad suggested that I rub Skin-So-Soft along his back. I?m not sure if that would be okay do more harm? If it would not help or maybe even do harm to my poor cat, what else could I do? Please help. – Michelle
Answer: I know you love your sweet boy and you want to help him. Please do not put ointments or gels on your cat. Keep in mind that your cat grooms himself by licking with his tongue. Anything you apply topically will be ingested by him during the grooming process. Many products that are safe for humans or dogs are toxic to cats.
We need to try and determine what caused the sores. Fleas, mites, mosquitoes, and other parasites can cause intense itching and the sores can become infected. Make sure he doesn?t have any fleas or parasites.
Fight wounds from other cats can become infected and cause sores. If this is the case, you will need to bathe him in a Betadyne shampoo. Betadyne is a mild antibacterial shampoo that can be purchased over the counter. Let it sit on for 10 minutes then rinse it completely. If your cat is itchy, you can also use an oatmeal and aloe shampoo to soothe the skin. Shampoo therapy can often help in the early stages with infections. You may need to shampoo every few days. More severely infected wounds may need antibiotics. Keep him inside and don?t allow him to go outside.
If these products don?t work, he may have a more complex problem such as allergic skin disease or even cancer. He will need to go to a veterinarian to find out what is causing the sores. Perhaps there is a rescue group or humane society near you that could help.

Neighbor?s dogs bark constantly; is there a solution?
Question: I am unemployed at present and live in an apartment next to a resident who has a yard with several barking dogs. They have high-pitched barks and they bark daily for hours. I have called Palm Beach Animal Care & Control, but they will not act until they receive two affidavits from other neighbors. In the meantime, the dogs keep barking.
Is there some kind of solution to this problem behavior when they bark at anything? The owner is elderly, there may be a fine and I want to be a good neighbor. Any suggestions? — Kathie
Answer: You are in a sticky situation. Unfortunately, there is not a lot that you can do. Of course, on your end, you can use white noise in your house and sleep with ear plugs to drown out the sound. To stop the dogs from barking, you can try the ultrasonic bark correctors that are widely available on the market.

Airline Approved Dog Carriers for Delta Airlines
Delta is one airline that does allow small cats and dogs and sometimes small birds to travel in the cabin of the aircraft with the owner. The pet must be secured in an approved under the seat carrier. For larger pets, the pets must be check baggage or cargo and must be transported in an airline approved dog carrier as well.
To determine Delta airline approved dog carriers you can go directly to their ?Pet Rules? site. The under the seat carrier is designed much like a duffle bag only it meets the requirements to safely and securely transport the hound. The bags are comfortable and well ventilated and are carried as by two hand straps or shoulder straps. Other approved styles are pet carriers that are designed with wheels and an extended handle which owners can conveniently push their animals.
Other designs include the pet crate which is designed to fit under the seat in the cabin area and for larger dogs, can be purchased for travel for the cargo area. These crates are constructed with a durable sturdy plastic and are well ventilated and include an easy to carry handle for the owner to transport the animal inn the carrier.

As the weather takes a turn for the worst here in Wisconsin I am reminded that extra warmth and protection is needed to keep Piper warm! One of my favorite ways of doing this is dog pajamas. Just as you and I enjoy a nice, new, warm pair of pajamas, your dog can now as well! We have a variety of pajamas to fit small dogs- from flannel, fleece, cotton, and more. Not everyone lives in the cold state of Wisconsin, so a cotton pair of dog pajamas may be more suitable than a thick fleece pair.
